Meet Our Educators

The Nine Mile Falls School District has assembled a team of talented music educators to build a solid foundation of musical knowledge, fostering the growth of each student’s understanding of music. About

Levi Mazurek

Levi Mazurek is the director of chorus and bands at Lakeside High School and director of bands at Lakeside Middle School in Nine Mile Falls, WA. He has been teaching in the Nine Mile Falls School District for 14 years and his roles have included teaching grade 5-12 bands, 6-12 chorus, beginning piano, marching band, pep band, jazz band, guitar, and music appreciation. Mr. Mazurek currently teaches middle and high school band, high school jazz band, and high school choir. He received his Bachelors of Music Education from Eastern Washington University in 2010 where he was the marching band drum major for three years, his Masters in Band Conducting from the American Band College of Sam Houston State University in 2015, and is a National Board Certified Teacher. Mr. Mazurek was the recipient of the Outstanding Secondary Instrumental Ensemble Teacher by the Spokane Symphony in recognition and appreciation of distinguished support of the Arts in the Spokane Region. In his leisure time, he enjoys writing and performing music in the Spokane Region as a singer-songwriter, playing video games, fishing, hiking, and, above all, loves spending quality time with his wife Rachael and daughter Katarina.

Patricia Wichmann

Patricia Wichmann is a vocalist, composer, and music educator from Steven’s County.  She obtained her Master of Music Degree (2013) from the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied jazz voice and composition, and has spent the last 11 years working as an educator and performer in New York City and Los Angeles.

Passionate about education, Ms. Wichmann teaches voice, beginning-intermediate piano, music theory, songwriting, and choral skills to students of all ages and abilities.  She's coached students and vocal ensembles for prestigious competitions, auditions, festivals and public performances, and is a certificated K-12 music educator with specialized training teaching music and movement to children ages 6 months to 7 years.  Patricia has extensive experience coaching and directing children’s choirs, middle school and high school vocal ensembles/choirs, and collegiate vocal ensembles, in jazz, concert, and chamber settings.

In addition to teaching, Ms. Wichmann is an experienced performer of jazz, blues, rock/soul, pop, classical, and musical theater.  She has made appearances at many acclaimed venues, including Carnegie Hall, The Town Hall, Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, Smalls Jazz Club, and the Cornelia Street Cafe, and has performed throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.

Ms. Wichmann is excited to instruct students of all ages and ability levels in instrumental and choral music, with the aim of developing musicality, skills, confidence, and creativity, and cultivating a life-long passion for learning!

Cheyan Nelson

Cheyan Nelson is Music Director at Lake Spokane Elementary in Nine Mile Falls, Washington. She has been teaching in the Nine Mile Falls School District for 2 years and her roles have included 6-8th grade choir, and Music director at Nine Mile Falls Elementary. She grew up in Chattaroy, Washington and is an alumni of Riverside High School. She received her Bachelors of Music Education from Eastern Washington University in June of 2022. There she was a flutist in the Eastern Washington University Marching Band, a bassoonist in the Wind Ensemble and vocalist in symphonic choir and vocal jazz ensembles. Ms. Nelson is passionate about teaching her students how fun and rewarding learning music can be. Her students grow in their musicality through music theory, choral singing, playing percussion and keyboard, and interaction with many types of instruments and world music.  In her free time, she enjoys performing in community operas and choirs, foreign language learning, hiking, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
